Hungary

Danube bridge Budapest Hungary

Hungary, like most European countries, has had a colourful history. But even more colourful are the modern-day prospects as a tourism destination that is second to none in the European continent.

Sure, just its capital city, Budapest, casts a spell with its unparalleled vistas that range from the stunning views from both sides of the Danube that flows under the many bridges. Be it the grand cathedrals or the majestic castle, the tree-lined avenues, or the irresistible draw of the Jewish town, Budapest demands your attention and your time.

Like most European countries, there sure is more to Hungary even with a vibrant capital city. You just have to make room in your itinerary for the many other tourist delights that it offers.

For the wine aficionados, there is Eger in the east and Tokaj, further east towards the Polish border. For those looking for culture and heritage, there are quaint towns like Szentendre, Esztergom, Pecs, or Sopron. If it’s the outdoors that appeals to you, check out Lake Balaton. For a more ethnic Hungarian experience, there is the interesting town of Holloko.

If you want a bit of everything and yet prefer a place very near Budapest, check out Visegrad. A castle town just an hour’s train ride away and a further short ferry ride along the Danube, here is both history and the outdoors rolled into one neat package.
